I decided to do another 8" x 8" page for another challenge today.  This one was for a Pixels and Paper Challenge.  We were given the following image and asked to make a page inspired by it.

From this image I was most inspired by the dark silhouette of the bike against the blue sky.  I didn't have many out door photos so i chose one that was taken when I did a play for children at my church during something called Fam Jam in high school.  I felt like the perfect thing to silhouette would be a stained glass window so I took an exacto knife and free-cut the window out of black glittery paper.  Because the page is so physically small, I didn't want to weigh it down with too many more embellishments.

Once again, I fell behind on scrapbooking but this weekend was a much needed break from the last where I was touring with my college's Children's Theatre Tour.  I got to play a secret princess and the little kids were awesome!

I decided to do a Challenge YOUrself challenge.  The challenge was to do a page that featured one of your daily blessings and while this was difficult since I don't have too many pictures here at college with me, I did have this one of my mother and I when I was (very clearly) a baby.  My mother is definitely the biggest daily blessing I have and she gets a lot of phone calls.

I did the page for an 8" x 8" album and used papers and elements that my lovely Aunt recently gave to me.

Even though I'm a day late to enter the contest, I decided to try one of The Paper Girls challenges.  It was a wine-themed challenge and was really fun.

I decided to scrap pictures from one of my friend's 21st birthdays in keeping with the alcohol theme and also used the wine color and circles to mimic the tops of glasses.  I really like the glittery-ness and enjoy the way it turned out.

Finally, after making it through show week for Eastern's production of Mousetrap where I was costuming crew head and the next week of midterms, I have officially hit spring break and have had a little bit of time to scrapbook.

To start off this glorious time, I chose to do a Challenge YOUrself challenge.  The current theme was your own personal bucket list.  One of the top items on my bucket list is to become a published writer.  Lately I've been writing columns and drawing cartoons for the Daily Eastern News, the campus newspaper here at Eastern Illinois University.  I cut out the first article that they included my photo with, as well as my cartoon which was featured on the same day and scrapbooked the two!

The school's colors are royal blue and white so I chose to stick with those colors to make my articles pop.

It's been awhile since I posted.  Still busy as ever, but I did a little scrapping based on a book cover again.  Books are just such beautiful works of art!  I received some lovely Valentine's gifts from my mother and Aunt with scrapbooking supplies but I ended up using some old stuff for this page anyways.  I'm looking to use some of their stuff soon here though.

Anyways, this book cover is a pretty watercolor for The Awakening which is a great short read about the treatment of women before suffrage really took a hold. I highly recommend it.

I really liked the colors and the way they were meshed together.  I will say however that there is a lot more bright blue in the cover than my phone camera could capture. 

Here is the page I came up with.  I like the pictures I used because we were mimicking the characters on our cups which were mostly superheroes.

It's been awhile since I updated this blog.  I've been busy writing papers, researching, and as of recently drawing cartoons for EIU's newspaper.

I decided to do an 8 1/2" x 11" page inspired by another book cover.  One of my favorite books is Light In August by William Faulkner so I took the cover of it and used it as inspiration for my page.  It's hard to see, but the picture is a really pretty, old tree, with green vines wrapped around it.  Yellow and blue are also strong on the page.

I am an English major and have a very extensive personal collection of books.  The other day I was looking at a bunch of them and started noticing how much I enjoyed the pretty covers of a lot of them.  I decided that when I am not sure what to do for a scrapbook page I should look at some of them to get inspiration and so with that in mind, that is what I have done for this page.

This is the book cover I used for inspiration.  It's a collection of works by Edgar Allan Poe.

I really liked the way that the background was multicolored and had an interesting water color feel but more importantly I like the style of the black drawing.  I don't have many dark photos but I tried to mimic the style loosely to create this watercolor flower for my page:

I really like the way the page turned out overall and I'd say it was a success for my first book cover experiment!
